DJ YRS Jerzy’s Wednesday Throwback: UGK – “Use Me Up”

It’s good to see the hip hop veterans still going hard in the new generation. This week saw the trill OG, Bun B, drop his new album, Trill OG: The Epilogue. His comeback has come alongside comebacks from Eminem and Jay-Z. But, Bun B’s run dates back a little bit longer than theirs, counting his UGK days.
Rest in peace to Pimp C, who was Bun B’s partner in crime and group-mate in UGK. The two debuted in 1992 on Jive Records with their Too Hard to Swallow album. Released almost exactly twenty years ago, it was symbolic for Bun B to drop his album when he did and it made for the perfect tie-in for the Wednesday Throwback.
Bun B and Pimp C dropped Too Hard to Swallow and the album is considered a Southern classic. On the second single off the album, “Use Me Up,” Pimp C did the track solo and Bun B made cameos in the music video. It’s fitting to use this song, seeing how Bun B is now going solo representing UGK.
