During the 1990s, hip hop took a major turn toward the mainstream world. Materialism took the game over and much of the blame credit goes to Diddy and the Bad Boy Records era of shiny suits. Truth be told, the 1990s was a decade of prosperity and hip hop went from being profitable for executives to being profitable for executives and talent.

Even hardcore rappers jumped into the materialistic side of the game. Making millions of dollars off album sales, performances, and endorsements, money was limitless. Rappers credited for being hustlers, including Master P and Jay-Z, also boasted of their exotic rides and featured them in lyrics, music videos, and album covers.

Anyone with access to media knows the economic boom of the 1990s has been replaced by the current economic climate of despair. However, hip hop has continued to profit and make new millionaires while Jay-Z inches closer to the billion dollar mark. Many of the top exotic cars that are boasted about in lyrics are no longer in production, but Rick Ross says this only makes the cars more exclusive. Discontinuation has been the case for several exotic cars, as the sales no longer matched the high production costs. Among the discontinued cars is the above Pagani Zonda, made by Italian manufacturer, Pagani, which ended in 2011 after a twelve year run.

In celebration of the lifestyle of the rich and the famous, today Hip Hop Vibe will spotlight a few of the many exotic rides boasted by the current generation of rappers. Hip hop has come a long way since the Mercedes-Benz was the top exotic car in the game.
