Gary Payton II has come up big for the Golden State Warriors, this season. When the Golden State Warriors started their historic run, few people saw it coming. After the 2019 NBA Finals, the Warriors came up two wins short of their fourth championship. Most people thought they were over, after finishing with the NBA’s worst record.
Gary Payton II is the son of the iconic Gary Payton. Whereas Gary Payton I was a superstar for most of his career, Gary Payton II has been in and out of the league. Prior to Gary Payton II joining the Golden State Warriors, he was playing in the G League. When Gary Payton II was called up to the Golden State Warriors, he impressed everyone.
Gary Payton II became an integral part of the 2021 Golden State Warriors. Led by Stephen Curry, those Warriors nearly bulldozed their way into the playoffs. Last season, the Warriors lost to the Lakers and to the Grizzlies for the last playoff spot. This year, the Warriors lost the second seed to the Grizzlies. The Warriors were eager to stop the Memphis Grizzlies today.
Gary Payton II did his part to stop the Grizzlies. While Gary Payton I did a lot of things that Gary Payton II has been unable to do, that goes both ways. In today’s game, Gary Payton II got up in the air and slammed down on Desmond Bane.
