HHV Game Changers: T-Pain ft. Yung Joc – “Buy U A Drank”

Not every artist has the benefit of coming out the gate with hit singles and keeping it up for years. A lot of artists, including some fan favorites, had to wear that “one hit wonder” title until they came out with something later. These songs changed the game for these artists and Hip Hop Vibe has decided to chronicle them in a new series.

“HHV Game Changers” is the name of this new series and for openers, the clock rewinds to 2007, right before the internet took the game over. Coming into 2007, T-Pain was best-known for “I’m In Luv (Wit A Stripper)” and the Mike Jones remix. Already, fans were referring to him in the past tense, all of this changed soon though.

Heading into the summer of 2007, T-Pain released the first anthem. “Buy U A Drank” was the first single off his Epiphany sophomore album. With Yung Joc featured, T-Pain took the game over, sang hooks for major artists, and ushered in the auto-tune era that dominated the next two years.
