Hip Hop Approved TV: “In The House”

In The HouseBy DJ YRS Jerzy
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Rappers starring in television shows had become a new normal in the 1990s. Hip hop went from being feared to being accepted by all. Not all rappers had this luxury, but LL Cool J was one of the select few. LL Cool J, by 1995, was in comeback mode after his name had fallen off and he was doing some of everything to build his fan base back.

In addition to a new album, LL Cool J signed on to star in a new series, “In The House.” In the early seasons, LL Cool J starred opposite Debbie Allen. Once she left the show, LL Cool J starred alongside Kim Wayans and Alfonso Ribeiro, best known for his role on another “hip hop approved television show.”

There were a lot of similar sitcoms that came out in the 1990s. LL Cool J held “In The House” down from its 1995 debut to the network switch in 1997 and to the end of the series in 1999. The series had a short run, but there were cameos from the likes of Boyz II Men and even then-future NBA star, Kobe Bryant.

Maia Campbell stole the show in a lot of ways, but became famous for something different a little later on. But, she got herself back together and now she is looking good and ready to work again.
