When Ja Morant was drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies, few people expected him to be this good, this fast. Kendrick Perkins has said Morant is his MVP, as of right now. Aside from the MVP talk, the Grizzlies are among the best teams in the NBA. Due to playing in the West, the Grizzlies have to simply play for a homecourt playoff position. The Grizzlies are behind the Warriors, Suns, and Jazz in the West standings.

Behind Memphis, there are the Mavericks, Lakers, Nuggets, and Clippers. There’s also an outside chance that the Portland Trail Blazers make a late season playoff push. Last season, Ja Morant elevated to NBA superstar status, as Memphis made the NBA Play-In Tournament. There, the Grizzlies stunned the basketball world, defeating the Golden State Warriors for the eighth seed.

Ja Morant’s first taste of the playoffs went perfect for him, as his eighth seeded Grizzlies actually won Game 1. But, the rest of the series went as expected, with the Jazz winning every remaining game, ending his season. This season, Ja has outplayed everyone not named Stephen Curry, and he’s led Memphis to a top record in the West.

Tonight, the Grizzlies are hosting the Pistons, and giving them all they can handle. Early in the game, Ja Morant told Detroit they needed to call a timeout, and they called it.
