A year ago, the Houston Rockets abruptly entered a rebuilding phase. It was a sad moment, as the Rockets held the NBA’s best record, only three seasons prior. At that time, James Harden elevated himself to MVP status, which was a long time coming. After failed partnerships with guys like Dwight Howard, Harden had a consistent running mate, in Chris Paul. Together, they led the Rockets to a 65-17 record, and they were on the verge of closing out the Golden State Warriors.

The Houston Rockets haven’t been the same since taking the 3-2 lead over the Warriors. An injury to Chris Paul led to the Warriors winning the next two games, and their second straight championship. It would take another season, before Chris Paul was traded for Russell Westbrook. Once that partnership didn’t work, James Harden was left to fend for himself, again. Finally, Harden was traded to the Brooklyn Nets, which was supposed to result in a title. Meanwhile, Houston had to work with what was left.

This young and building Houston Rockets team is led by Jalen Green. Expectations for the team are low, but they have shown flashes of greatness. Despite contending for one of the NBA’s worst records, the Rockets went on a seven game winning streak, early in the season. Last night, they played the Los Angeles Lakers at home. They took the Lakers to overtime, where Jalen Green took over the game, and got the Rockets the key win.
