Jimmy Butler tries to recruit Luka Doncic to the Miami Heat

In a lot of ways, the Miami Heat changed the course of the NBA. Ironically, the Dallas Mavericks are forever tied to this. Sixteen years ago, the Dwyane Wade-led Heat upset the Mavericks to win their first championship. The Heat would endure years of struggle, after winning the championship. These struggles led to Dwyane Wade recruiting LeBron James and Chris Bosh to Miami. Projected to be the best team of all-time, the Dallas Mavericks upset the Heat to win their first championship.

Mirroring Miami, the Mavericks went through years of struggling. However, Dirk Nowitzki was unable to assemble a super team. Instead, Dirk faded into the sunset, as the Dallas Mavericks fell from contention. In 2017, the Mavs invested in the future, trading for Kristaps Porzingis. The following year, Luka Doncic was drafted, and he’s become the Mavericks’ franchise player. Two straight years, Luka’s Mavs have lost in the first round to the Clippers. Meanwhile, Jimmy Butler’s Heat came within two wins of winning the title, in 2020.

While Luka Doncic continues to put up huge numbers, the Miami Heat are dominating the East. The Heat are contending for the top spot in the East. They are battling with the Bulls, Bucks, Sixers, and Cavs for the top spot. Jimmy Butler’s Heat hosted the Mavericks last night. During a quick exchange, Jimmy asked Luka to join him on the Heat roster, next season. That would definitely give Miami the East’s top spot. Dallas, meanwhile, has the Suns, Warriors, Grizzlies, Jazz, and Nuggets to contend with.
