Joel Embiid did not win the MVP this year. However, Joel Embiid played like the MVP this year. There was a lot of turmoil for the Philadelphia 76ers entering this year. Early in the season, the off court drama impacted the Sixers. In December, Joel Embiid began a barrage of scoring that soon translated into wins. The East was the tough conference, this year. Almost every team spent time as the first seed, the Sixers included.

Joel Embiid landed James Harden as a teammate, during the trade deadline. Many expected the Embiid/Harden duo to dominate the East. As it turns out, nobody dominated the East. The Miami Heat even slipped from the first seed, despite having a virtual lock on the top spot. Briefly, the Boston Celtics came from not even being in the play-in to the East’s top seed. It was just too much and Joel Embiid played lights out throughout the season.

Joel Embiid worked hard to keep the Philadelphia 76ers alive. In the first round, Embiid’s fourth seeded Sixers went up 3-0 on the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors stormed back to win two straight games. In Game 6, Joel Embiid went for the closeout. When he did, Embiid wound up injured, and missed the first two games against the Miami Heat. Tonight, the Sixers were in Miami for Game 5. Embiid’s face ended up hit again and this led to him shedding some tears.
