LaMelo Ball apologizes to his teammates for missing game-winner | Pistons at Hornets [VIDEO]

LaMelo Ball apologizes to his teammates for missing game-winner

Early this season, the Charlotte Hornets put the NBA on notice. Following their first postseason play in five years, the Hornets looked to make the playoffs. Entering 2022, the Hornets were six games above .500, having played all of the “hard” games. The Hornets have impressive wins over the Warriors, Grizzlies, Sixers, Cavs, Celtics, and Bucks. Meanwhile, LaMelo Ball began morphing into being a franchise player.

LaMelo Ball was drafted by the Hornets with the third pick in the 2020 draft. In Ball, the Hornets had a true franchise player for the first time since the original Hornets. After the departure of Kemba Walker, the Hornets didn’t have a true leader. But, drafting Ball led to the Hornets also signing Gordon Hayward, a player the Hornets almost had in 2014. With Terry Rozier and Miles Bridges, the Hornets’ core looked set.

Charlotte has struggled over their past twelve games, going 2-10. It’s looking like another play-in season for them, instead of the playoffs. Tonight, the Hornets hosted the Detroit Pistons, who are one of the worst teams in the NBA. One of their two wins, in this run, came in Detroit, against the Pistons. Tonight, the Pistons played them tough, almost beating them in regulation. LaMelo Ball stopped this, with a putback, and almost iced the game, with a steal and a buzzer-beating attempt. When he missed, Ball apologized to his teammates.
