LaMelo Ball barely played last season, due to injuries, but he was showing progress in 2022. So far, he’s not played well this season. As a result, some fans have believed the Charlotte Hornets need to move on from him. Some have said Brandon Miller should become the franchise player. Those people overlook the fact that Ball is likely still nervous due to his level of ankle injury. After the opening night win, the Hornets have lost three straight games. They got the 125-124 win in Indiana, courtesy of Ball.
LaMelo Ball entered the NBA with a lot of hype, but also with major concerns. Ball didn’t play in college, opting to spend a year playing professional basketball internationally. In 2020, he declared for the draft and went third to the Charlotte Hornets. At the time, Charlotte was still in transition, after essentially trading Kemba Walker for Terry Rozier. Since that moment, the Hornets have overhauled nearly their entire roster.
LaMelo Ball was expected to have a huge jump in his play, last season. However, injuries decimated what was already going to be a difficult season. It looked like Ball and Miles Bridges were forming a solid duo, but everything ended. Last night, the Hornets faced a lot of questions about what they’re looking like. So far, Ball has not played like a franchise player. When they visited the Indiana Pacers, LaMelo came alive at the right time. In the end, he stripped Tyrese Haliburton, which was the game winning play.
