LaMelo Ball sheds tears after his nose gets injured

Recent NBA rule changes have benefitted the Charlotte Hornets. Since 2014, the Hornets have consistently been playoff contenders. With the exception of 2014 and 2016, the Hornets have missed the playoffs. During this eight year span, only 2020 is when they had no shot. Had that season continued, the Hornets stood a chance of getting closer to the playoff picture.

Whatever the case, the Charlotte Hornets are consistently the ten seed. That didn’t matter until the NBA created the play-in tournament. Essentially, this is the new first round, as seeds seven through ten play single elimination games to make the playoffs. The play-in has two winners, with the first winner gaining the seventh seed, and the second winner gaining the eighth seed.

LaMelo Ball became the face of the Charlotte Hornets, when he was drafted in 2020. Ball teamed up with Gordon Hayward and led the Hornets to a 27-24 record, towards the end of last year. Hayward’s injury saw the Hornets slide to 33-39, making the play-in, and losing to Indiana. This year, Ball and Miles Bridges formed a duo, leading to a 28-22 record. A Hayward injury saw them slide to 29-32, before rebounding to a 43-39 record. After beating the Wizards, where Ball cut his nose, they finished 43-39. In the play-in, they will face the Hawks.
