LeBron James airballs game winning shot vs Pelicans
When LeBron James arrived in Los Angeles, to join the Lakers, it wasn’t the typical situation. The Lakers were already going through their toughest stretch in franchise history. After the 2010 championship, the Lakers went into a decline that left them the NBA’s worst team. However, the Lakers had a young core that could compete, heading into the 2018-2019 campaign. Because of this, some Laker fans actually didn’t want LeBron James to join the team.
LeBron James has a history of blowing up a team’s core when he joins. The addition of LeBron James means sacrificing young players to bring in two All-Stars. Many wondered how LeBron James and Brandon Ingram would play together. The result was a 35-47 record, where LeBron James missed the playoffs for the first time since 2005. That offseason, the Lakers traded Brandon Ingram and much of the core to the Pelicans for Anthony Davis.
The duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, along with a veteran supporting cast, led to the Lakers winning the championship. Because of the title, many of the veterans got big contracts from other teams, leaving the Lakers with another young core. Early in the season, the Lakers went 22-7 and then injuries left them in the play-in. During the offseason, the Lakers brought much of the 2020 core back, but chemistry has not been the same. Last night, they took on the Pelicans, and LeBron airballed the big shot, resulting in a loss.
