Eight years ago, LeBron James began flirting with the idea of returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers. At the time, LeBron was in his fourth year with the Miami Heat. They were competing for their third straight title, but had cooled significantly from their 66-16 2013 season. The Miami Heat were not getting better, so LeBron James was looking for a way out. After a crushing loss to the Spurs, in the 2014 NBA Finals, LeBron James returned to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
That summer, the Cavs also had the top draft pick in Andrew Wiggins. As LeBron James returned, fans looked forward to seeing him play alongside Kyrie Irving. Wiggins was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Kevin Love. Together, LeBron James formed a new “Big 3” with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love. The team took some time to gel, but they would win 53 games, and come within two wins of the championship. This is when their rivalry with the Warriors was born.
In 2016, LeBron James would lead the Cavaliers to their only championship. Two years later, LeBron James left Cleveland for the Los Angeles Lakers. The season prior, Kyrie Irving left the Cavs, and this left Kevin Love as the only star on the Cavs roster. Until this season, the Cavs struggled, but they are better than the Lakers this year. Despite the struggles, the Lakers came into Cleveland and dominated. The highlight of their win came with LeBron James’ powerful dunk on Kevin Love.
