LeBron James passes up the game winning shot in Houston

Through his career, LeBron James has paid a price for being an amazing athlete. As great of an athlete that LeBron James is, he’s always faced criticism for not coming through in the clutch. During the first half of his career, LeBron James was criticized for not winning a championship. When he finally did, he was criticized for only winning after teaming up with other franchise players. While it is true that each title LeBron has won came with other franchise players, he’s won every Finals MVP.

LeBron James entered the NBA at the official end of the Michael Jordan era. He wore Jordan’s number, 23, throughout most of his career. Admittedly, LeBron James did that because he admires Michael Jordan that much. To a younger generation of NBA fans, LeBron James is the equivalent of what Michael Jordan was. People often mention the six championships in eight years for Jordan. But James has an argument with his ten NBA Finals appearances with four different teams, three franchises.

Last night, all of that went out the window, when the Lakers played the Rockets. The game was tied, late in regulation and LeBron James had the ball. He broke the defense down and was taking the game winning shot. Well, at least that’s what most fans and pundits thought. Instead, LeBron James turned down the reverse layup in favor of kicking the ball out to Carmelo Anthony. While LeBron would’ve likely made the layup, Carmelo missed the three, sending the game into overtime. The Lakers lost.
