Not only did the Lakers start 2-10, but they also never improved much above .500. The Lakers fell into the play-in, after only posting a 42-40 record. However, they managed the seventh seed, where they upset the Grizzlies and Warriors. After that, they played the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals, getting swept last night.
LeBron James and the Lakers have had a tough go, over the past five years. After being swept in the 2018 NBA Finals, LeBron left the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Lakers in free agency. Tough competition in the West, plus injuries kept the 2019 Lakers out of the playoffs. However, many people noted that when LeBron was healthy, the Lakers were holding the fourth seed. In 2019, the Lakers pulled off the Anthony Davis trade. Despite the 2020 season being paused, the trade was an immediate win. In the bubble, the Lakers won the championship.

However, injuries upended the team, and they fell to the seventh seed, losing in the first round to the Phoenix Suns. Last season, injuries left the Lakers at 33-49, which caused them to miss the play-in. This season, at 42-40, they won the play-in and the playoff’s first two rounds. Last night, facing elimination, LeBron got into it with Aaron Gordon. Clearly, the frustration was getting to LeBron.
