Lil Durk was not the rapper most had in mind when they said biggest rappers in the next decade. In 2012, Lil Durk was one of many Chicago rappers that were making noise. While the other rappers signed with other labels, Lil Durk chose Def Jam. Aside from the major label, Lil Durk aligned himself with some major crews. Despite this, Lil Durk didn’t have much to show for his success from 2013 until 2016.

Lil Durk went through a lot of hardship, as he left Def Jam. It looked like Lil Durk was done with the game. After Lil Durk and Dej Loaf ended whatever they had going on, he disappeared. While Lil Durk did indeed take time away from the spotlight, he never stopped working. Learning the business, Lil Durk came back with a new roster of artists in his OTF crew.

Lil Durk turned OTF into a real label and partnered with Alamo Records. However, Lil Durk intended to be more of an executive and less of a rapper. When Lil Durk returned, he introduced King Von to the game, and he was taking over. Similar to what happened with Fat Joe and Big Pun, Lil Durk had to take the spotlight when King Von died. Now Lil Durk is one of the top five most popular rappers in the game.

Lil Durk dropped the “Blocklist” music video, which he promoted having his lookalike, Perkio, in.
