Luka Doncic entered the season facing a lot of questions and scrutiny. With Luka Doncic, his bad temper was well noted. A lot of people felt Luka would need to tone it down if he was serious about winning. In 2020, Luka Doncic led the Dallas Mavericks to the playoffs. It was the Mavericks’ first playoff appearance since Dirk Nowitzki retired. During the bubble, Luka Doncic established himself as the Mavericks’ new franchise player.
Luka Doncic’s Dallas Mavericks had identical endings to their 2020 and 2021 seasons. Both campaigns ended with a Game 7 first round loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. This season, the Mavericks and Clippers both had struggles. With the Clippers expected to finish with a top four seed, they wound up losing in the play-in to the Timberwolves and the Pelicans. The Mavericks, meanwhile, went on a strong run to push themselves into a top four playoff seed.
Luka Doncic was injured, to begin the playoffs, but the Mavericks managed to hold their own. The Utah Jazz were given the advantage, due to Luka being out. Instead of being up 3-1, or sweeping outright, the Jazz only managed to go 2-2. When Luka came back, the Mavericks closed the Jazz out in six games, before taking on the Phoenix Suns. Not only did the Suns dominate the Mavericks, historically, they were the NBA’s best team. In the first two games, Phoenix played like it. In the end, Luka owned Cam Johnson.
