MC Lyte is a pioneer, in hip hop. While MC Lyte isn’t the first female rapper, she was the first one with true commercial success. Though she didn’t bring much, in terms of sex appeal, she did lay the groundwork for ladies like Lil’ Kim and Eve. Obviously, their styles, along with Foxy Brown, opened the door for Nicki Minaj and Cardi B, also Remy Ma. In 1996, MC Lyte reached her commercial peak. This is when she released “Cold Rock A Party.” Commercially, this is her best-known single. Last week, she performed this, when she appeared on Nick Cannon’s daytime talk show.
