On The Rise: Raj Stacks

Raj Stacks 2By Carlos Cureno
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Currently, California is the hip hop hotspot, as artists of all different sorts are emerging. In the mix of this new talent is Raj Stacks and he’s doing what he can to stick out from the rest. Instead of just jumping into projects, Raj Stacks is dropping singles for the masses.

Raj Stacks already got a major feature, as “Instagram That” has Future on it. The song caught the attention of Future while he was on tour with Drake, so it made for a major moment for him. Since then, his work has continued to be on par with his bigger stuff.

Hip Hop Vibe recently spoke to Raj Stacks for our latest On The Rise interview. When he talked to us, Raj Stacks discussed some of the biggest moments of his career. He would go on to mention the state of his home area, when it comes to the hip hop movement.

Read the entire interview below:

As someone who both raps and sings, do you see the game going to a more EDM route? Yes, I definitely see the game moving towards EDM in the aspect of pop music and in terms of production within each genre. You can hear the hip hop influence in EDM and also the EDM influence hip hop today.

But, even though the game is moving that way, I don’t really think it’ll over take hip hop like a lot of rappers are scared of. To me, rapping and singing will never go out of style, because rap is the music of the youth. It gives us a voice that no other music can.

The feeling it gives you can’t be found anywhere else.

How do you feel about the evolution of the music in California over the past ten/fifteen years? Wow, that’s a great question. Ten years ago was the pinnacle of music in California. The hyphy movement was gaining nationwide recognition. Mac Dre, E-40, Mistah Fab, and Keak da Sneak had the Bay going crazy, but it never seemed to get the mainstream recognition it deserved. But now, California music is really big and the evolution of the music and movement is beautiful to see. We have guys like Kendrick Lamar, G-Eazy, YG, and me just putting on for Cali. It’s amazing. I’m excited to be a part of it.

Can you tell us how you landed Future for a collaboration? It all happened through Future’s cousin, he linked us up during Drake’s “Would You Like a Tour?” tour, we met right before Future was suppose to go on stage with Drake to perform. I played him my music, he really liked “Instagram That” and it all just went from there. Shoutout Freebandz G. It’s all thanks to him.

Do you intend to do an “Instagram That” music video? Yes, the video is already out. It has a special outro by Future. It’s a must watch.

You also have the single, “Let’s Get Gone,” that you’re pushing. Would you consider adding a big name to that track? Honestly, Let’s Get Gone is my favorite song right now, and whenever I listen to it I always feel like I can hear Bryson Tiller or Travis Scott on there. I would really love it if I could get them both on the remix. That would be a movie.

Is there a project or anything that you have to house this new music? Right now I’m just dropping singles after single. I have a lot of crazy songs coming out soon. Shout out to my bro Uv, he produced the next couple singles I have coming out. I do have a project I’m working on, I don’t have a title yet but I’m planning for it to come out early 2017. My brother Lakshaye really wants me to put one out this year but I don’t feel like it’s the right time. I might put out an joint EP with my girl Sarah Brooke this year but we’ll see.

Can you let the people know where they can find you on social media? You can catch me on Instagram and Twitter @Rajstacks, Facebook.com/Rajstacks and Soundcloud.com/Rajstacks . Thank you
