No longer can it be said that New York City has fallen off. But, there was a long period of time, prior to 2011, where New York hip hop struggled. Much like the Los Angeles counterparts, times have drastically changed. Now, New York has countless rappers putting on for the city.

Superfly Gee is among the New York rappers helping to keep the city relevant. Doing his thing for ten years, Superfly Gee has had numerous opportunities. Often performing at shows, Nas and Juelz Santana are among the veterans who Superfly Gee has performed with over the years.

Fresh off the release of his successful mixtape, 10 Birds N Better, Superfly Gee is on a strong run. As his buzz picks up, Hip Hop Vibe reached out to Superfly Gee to feature him in the On the Rise section. All independent artists looking to be known need to pay close attention to what Superfly Gee had to say.

How many years have you been rapping? I’ ve been rapping close to 10 years.

How long did it take you to put together 10 Birds N Better? It took me 3 months to write and record my mixtape 10 Birds N Better.

Are you pleased with the reaction of the mixtape? I’m pleased with the feedback and support from the people that have had a chance to listen to it. I’m working on getting it worldwide to expose my talent to the masses.

What are some of the songs that received the most feedback? “Paper Paper,” “Smell Like Money” featuring Dula, and “Life Aint Peaches n Cream” are the songs that received the most feedback.

Who were among the legends who inspired you to make music? Big Pun, NWA, Mobb Deep, Nas, Wu-Tang, 2Pac, and The Notorious BIG inspired me to decide to do this thing on my own.

What was it like to perform alongside Nas, DMX, and Juelz Santana? It was an amazing and humbling experience that I worked so hard to accomplish.

Will you be doing tracks with any big names? We have a few projects on the table to work with big artists but those deals aren’t signed as of yet.

When will you be performing with Future, French Montana, and Swizz Beatz? I’ll be performing with a few signed artists in the months of April, May, and June.

What made you interested in fashion? I’ve always loved different styles of clothing and its another form of artistic expression that i support as a customer, artist, and designer.
