The Lakers expected to return to the top of the Western Conference. There were some critics who believed that the Lakers would struggle. Even the people who felt the Lakers would struggle didn’t think they would miss the playoffs. While the Suns, Grizzlies, Warriors, Mavericks, Jazz, and Nuggets lead the West, the Lakers were on the outside looking in.
While LeBron James was pursuing the NBA’s all-time scoring title, he has been sitting out. LeBron James got injured when the Lakers lost to the Pelicans, hurting his ankle. The Lakers, since being eliminated from the postseason, have played more free and loose. In their final game, the Lakers hosted the Denver Nuggets, and beat them. Austin Reaves went up and tried to dunk on Jeff Green.
