Russell Westbrook misses open layup in the clutch | Lakers at Grizzlies [VIDEO]

Russell Westbrook misses open layup in the clutch

On paper, the Los Angeles Lakers have one of the greatest teams ever constructed in history. In 2020, the Lakers won the NBA championship, in the bubble. That team was led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Supporting players included Rajon Rondo, Dwight Howard, JaVale McGee, and Markieff Morris. Last season, many of the supporting players departed the team, and the Lakers ended up being a play-in team, defeating the Warriors to earn the seventh seed. There, the Lakers lost in the first round to the Phoenix Suns.

During the offseason, the Lakers sought to build a deeper team. Rondo and Howard returned to the team and the goal was to get LeBron and AD healthy. With that, Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony were brought in as supporting players. On paper, this team is supposed to be doing what the Warriors and Suns are doing. Instead, the Lakers are struggling to stay above .500, and it looks like their plan is backfiring. Last night, the Lakers took on the Memphis Grizzlies, and all of their problems were on full display.

The game was close and the Lakers had their moments, but their struggles where highlighted. In the closing moments of the game, Russell Westbrook had an open layup. Westbrook played great defense, stopping Ja Morant, and then tried to go coast-to-coast. A score would’ve cut the lead to one, but he instead missed his third layup, leading to the Lakers’ loss.
