Once Kevin Durant left the Oklahoma City Thunder, it would’ve been easy for Russell Westbrook to leave, too. But, he decided to stay and prove he deserved the right to lead the Thunder. No, the Thunder didn’t get their usual 50 wins, and they didn’t go far in the playoffs.
But, in the five games Russell Westbrook played, he left it all on the court. If he came into the season without the chip on his shoulder, his team would not have gotten this far. No disrespect to the rest of the roster on the Thunder, but that’s a 32 win team, at best, without Russ.
Russell Westbrook showed up, though, and he kept the Thunder in the conversation. In an NBA with guys like Steph Curry leading squads to 67 wins, Isaiah Thomas doing the impossible in Boston, and LeBron being LeBron, Russell Westbrook is the odd man out. But, somebody noticed him for his real passion and real authenticity.
