Since relocating to Brooklyn, the Nets have struggled to live up to expectations. Early in their Brooklyn run, the Nets traded for Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett. After two seasons, Paul Pierce officially became a journeyman, while Kevin Garnett returned to the Timberwolves. For the most part, the Brooklyn Nets have remained a competitive team.
Entering this season, the Brooklyn Nets were expected to lead the East and go to the Finals. That is still possible, for the Nets. However, the East is led by the Heat, Celtics, Bucks, and Sixers. Within the play-in range, there are the Raptors, Cavaliers, Nets, Hawks, and Hornets. After losing the tiebreaker to Charlotte, the Nets have worked to move up in the standings.
Coming into tonight, the Nets were playing the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. The Nets needed a win in a big way, as they need to win all of their remaining games. It was a close race between the Nets, Hawks, and Hornets, but the Nets need Cleveland’s spot. Tonight, the Nets eventually beat the Knicks, but Kevin Durant missed an open buzzer beater, leading to Steve Nash getting upset with him.
