Real hip hop fans know what Ghetto D really stood for and what the album cover depicted. After the West Coast showed there was hip hop life outside of New York City, guys like Master P introduced the South. Following a slew of independent albums, in 1996, Master P caught fire and broke the door down.
Exactly sixteen years ago, Master P returned with his second mainstream album and sixth overall effort, Ghetto D. The album is regarded as a Southern classic and it was released in the height of the New Orleans bounce era. Included on Ghetto D is the infectious hit single, “Make ‘Em Say Uhh.”
However, “I Miss My Homies” is the lead single off Ghetto D. Guest appearances came from Silkk The Shocker, Pimp C, Mystikal, Fiend, C-Murder, Mia X, and more. This album came out right when No Limit Records established itself as a force in the rap game.
Since today marks the sixteenth anniversary, Hip Hop Vibe is reflecting on Master P’s Ghetto D album and is taking a look back at the popular Master P album and the singles.
