Token brings a type of energy to hip hop not seen in nearly three decades. As a result, it is fitting that Token is signed to a label where all of the lyrical beats once resided. Not only is Token on Atlantic Records, but also Token has his own label. Back in January, Token dropped Pink Is Better, and it has many big features on it. However, the biggest feature is Token out here doing his thing on the mic.
Token was on top of the world, being signed to a label, and dropping his debut album. While Token was living the dream of millions of people, around the world, he also was dealing with a nightmare. Unexpectedly, Token’s father passed away. As anyone can imagine, the loss of a parent is one of the most painful forms of heartbreak. Because of this, Token took time out of the limelight.
Token returned with his dad in his heart and on his mind. While Token was taking his break, he recorded the single, “I Was In Hollywood.” The song is not only Token’s first single since the January release of Pink Is Better, it is also a tribute to his father. While Token is a successful rap star, his father’s dream was to be a musician. So, as Token is living this life, he is paying homage to his father.
