Trae Young hits dagger three in Russell Westbrook’s face

In 2018, the Atlanta Hawks drafted Trae Young, finally landing them a franchise player. From 2007 until 2017, the Hawks fielded competitive teams. Back then, the Hawks played a collective team ball, which peaked in 2015. That year, they went 60-22, and appeared in the Eastern Conference Finals. After that run, the Hawks gradually regressed. Finally, in 2017, the team tanked. Trae Young arrived, the following year, immediately improving the Hawks’ fortunes.

Trae Young established himself as a star, but the Hawks put up terrible records in 2019 and 2020. Last season seemed like more of the same, until the final stretch of the season. Led by Trae Young, the Hawks would close the season strong, and finish with the fifth spot in the playoffs. Narrowly avoiding the play-in, Trae Young led the Hawks to an upset over the New York Knicks, in the first round. Then, in the second round, Trae Young’s Hawks upset the East’s top team, the Philadelphia 76ers.

After the Hawks upset the Sixers, Ben Simmons hasn’t played a game since then. The Hawks would fall to Giannis and the Bucks, in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Trae Young has played well, but the Hawks have struggled this season. Lately, the Hawks have been on fire, winning six straight games. This afternoon, they hosted the Lakers, and were getting blown out. Trae Young led a rally and hit a dagger three pointer in Russell Westbrook’s face.
