Udonis Haslem goes off on the Miami Heat for getting blown out
Udonis Haslem was the Draymond Green before Draymond Green. Undrafted, Udonis Haslem joined the Miami Heat in 2003. As a Miami native, Udonis Haslem was the local legend. Haslem joined the Heat the same season as Dwyane Wade. After some tough seasons, the youthful Heat made the 2004 playoffs. Led by Wade and Lamar Odom, the Heat beat the Pelicans (then New Orleans Hornets), and nearly upset the Indiana Pacers.
Udonis Haslem’s role would change in the 2004-2005 season. In 2004, the Miami Heat traded for Shaquille O’Neal. Instantly, the Heat went from being a fringe playoff team to being title contenders. All of the focus was on Shaq and Dwyane Wade emerged as a star. When the Heat ran into the Detroit Pistons, it was Udonis Haslem going against Ben and Rasheed Wallace. In 2005, the Heat lost, but a healthy Heat beat Detroit in 2006. As a result, Miami made the Finals, where Haslem also contained Dirk to win the title.
Udonis Haslem was the unsung hero of the Miami Heat’s “Big 3” era. Haslem not being on Dirk in 2011 arguably hurt the Heat worse than LeBron James’ play. However, that era produced two more titles, and four more Finals’ trips. In 2020, Haslem settled into the veteran role, as Jimmy Butler led Miami on an unexpected title run. This year, it is expected, but the Heat put up nothing, as the Celtics blew the Heat out. This left Haslem highly upset, so he checked the whole Heat roster.
