Udonis Haslem surprises Tyler Herro with the Sixth Man of the Year award
Udonis Haslem is the longest tenured player in Miami Heat history. In the early days, few expected Udonis Haslem to still be in Miami. When the Heat added LeBron James and Chris Bosh, Udonis Haslem almost walked in free agency. Four years prior, Udonis Haslem played a key role in the Miami Heat winning the championship. Haslem’s defense on Dirk Nowitzki went overlooked. But Haslem not guarding Dirk in 2011 did not go overlooked.
Udonis Haslem is the proud enforcer of the Miami Heat. Haslem spent the first half of his career looking out for Dwyane Wade. With Haslem as a role player, Dwyane Wade led the Heat to their first title. During the middle of Haslem’s career, he held down the “Big 3.” In Haslem’s later years, he has been the veteran presence for the team. Haslem now spends his time as Erik Spoelstra’s enforcer and he reminded Jimmy Butler of this.
Udonis Haslem is a good guy who only wants what is best for the Miami Heat. Every year, the goal is for the Miami Heat to win. Even in years when the Heat have no clear cut franchise player, they are a playoff caliber team. When the Heat have a franchise player, they normally go to the Finals. This is the culture Udonis Haslem instills in the team. Today, Tyler Herro won the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award, and UD was who presented it to him.
