In a sense, 50 Cent’s back was against the wall, coming into 2005, despite the year being one of the best of his career. When the year began, 50 Cent was in the background. His enemy, Ja Rule, however, was back on top of the game and had tons of support.
While 50 Cent was in the background, Ja Rule had mainstream radio on lock with “Wonderful,” another Billboard top five track. The single featured Ashanti and R. Kelly and Ja also had the streets with “New York,” featuring Fat Joe and Jadakiss. 50 Cent used this as motivation.
Soon, 50 Cent had Terror Squad, Ruff Ryders, and The L.O.X. against him, just as he wanted it. Now with a goal in mind, 50 Cent dropped another record-breaking album, The Massacre, before doing the Get Rich or Die Tryin’ movie and soundtrack. The album boasted the single, “Window Shopper,” aimed at the “New York” rappers, cameo from Mase, and the Wednesday Throwback.
