In 2004, Kanye West was the biggest breakout artist and he was doing music with everyone. But, coming up in the pre-ringtone rap era of one hit wonders, Kanye West could have gone either way. Instead of falling off, Kanye West rose up.

He returned in 2005 with Late Registration, his sophomore album, and he established himself as Roc-A-Fella’s heir to Jay Z’s throne. Doing his own thing, the Chicago rapper took over the early summer. The first single made people both dance and think.

Kanye West debuted “Diamonds… From Sierra Leone,” which was definitely a song to blast. But, it was also one of the first songs to shed light on the conflict diamonds situation in Africa. With yesterday being the eleventh anniversary of the Late Registration album release, this record is this week’s Wednesday Throwback.
