The late 1990s were a good period for Def Jam, as they were reaping the benefits of signing Jay Z, DMX, and Ja Rule. In addition to this, they had the Def Soul branch doing well. At Def Soul, Montell Jordan was one of the main attractions.
Montell Jordan got typecast after his initial hit, “This Is How We Do It,” became such a massive hit. Eager to show he had more than one style, he showed different facets of his style. This led to his fourth studio album, Get It On… Tonite.
With the title track of his fourth album, Montell Jordan truly established himself as more than a one hit wonder. The song is, commercially, his second-most successful track behind his initial debut. This week, we have chosen this track to be the Wednesday Throwback.
