The past two weeks have been all about Compton and the West Coast, due to the Straight Outta Compton movie premiere. Inspired by the film, which was inspired by his group, NWA, Dr. Dre recorded a new album. In a matter of weeks, he gave fans what they waited sixteen years for.
Dr. Dre is a partner in Apple Music and he utilized their service via radio station, Beats 1 Radio, to premiere his album. The new music from Dr. Dre has a nostalgic feel. Many people have gone back to the original Straight Outta Compton body of work.
In honor of this and reflecting on not only Dr. Dre, but Ice Cube, MC Ren, DJ Yella, and the late Eazy-E, Hip Hop Vibe decided to tribute them this Wednesday. NWA is the focus of this week’s Wednesday Throwback. The song of choice, obviously, is “Straight Outta Compton,” the title track of the album of the same name.
