Yesterday was one of those days and before we knew it, Wednesday was over. But, this throwback was weeks in the making, as the whole braintrust was thinking of one that we felt everyone forgot about. Then, it came to us… Jon B.
Before there was Justins, Timberlake and Bieber, Jon B. filled the void of the white singer who made black music. The difference is that Jon B. specialized in soul and didn’t rely too much on pop. Coming up under the guidance of Babyface in the 1990s made him a household name.
In the late 1990s until 2001, Jon B. was a force and he peaked in 1997, with “They Don’t Know.” This was the signature song off Cool Relax, his most-successful album. Reflecting on this time period, “They Don’t Know” is the Wednesday Throwback, but today is Thursday.
