Today marks twenty two years since the Above The Rim soundtrack was released. The project was overseen by Dr. Dre on behalf of Death Row Records/Interscope. Quite a bit has changed, since then, but Dr. Dre remains Interscope Records’ breadwinner.
However, the supporting cast has drastically changed, as The Lady of Rage is no longer cranking out hits. But, in 1994, she had the standout on the Above The Rim soundtrack. Her single, “Afro Puffs,” featuring future legend, Snoop Doggy Dogg, remains a classic.
With Twitter trending with “Today In 1994 Above The Rim,” it made sense to tie this in to the Wednesday Throwback. In 2014, The Lady of Rage briefly spoke to Hip Hop Vibe, when she came to North Carolina. Two years later, “Afro Puffs” is the Wednesday Throwback, featuring Snoop Dogg.
