YRS Jerzy’s Wednesday Throwback: Twista ft. Jamie Foxx and Kanye West – “Slow Jamz”

Last week, Jamie Foxx was on Hot 97 and he explained how he found success as an R&B singer. Although many forgot, his start came with Kanye West, who was making the transition to rapping. At the same time, he was working with Twista, who Jay Z and Dame Dash wanted.

The perfect mix came when Jamie Foxx was put on to Kanye West, who put him on “Slow Jamz.” For Twista, who had not been thought of in years, it was a great look for him. His rapid rapping style worked on a slow song, Jamie Foxx, and the Kanye West touch set it off.

“Slow Jamz” was written off as “wack” by most, including Jamie Foxx, but the song was released in December 2003, anyway. The song became a big hit and was both the first single on Twista’s album, Kamikaze, and Kanye West’s debut album, College Dropout. With so much talk about Kanye West and Jamie Foxx being back with a new album, this song was perfect for the Wednesday Throwback.
