Zach LaVine joined the Chicago Bulls, when he was a part of the 2017 Jimmy Butler trade. Since Zach LaVine joined the Bulls, they have failed to qualify for the playoffs. During the 2021 offseason, Zach LaVine gained DeMar DeRozan and Lonzo Ball as teammates. For 3/4 of the season, the Bulls were the best team in the East. When January came, people began looking at the Bulls like true contenders. This is when Jimmy Butler’s Miami Heat began the run that earned them the East’s top record.

Despite the Bulls’ early success, they fell into the sixth seed. Critics were right, in the end, saying the Bulls and Cavaliers didn’t have enough to hang with the Heat, Sixers, and Bucks. But the Boston Celtics also emerged as a contender, taking the second seed from all of them. Zach LaVine also gained Lakers’ star role player, Alex Caruso, as a teammate. Still, the Bulls nearly fell into the play-in, finishing only three games ahead of the Hawks and Hornets.

When the Chicago Bulls fell to the sixth seed, the Milwaukee Bucks rose to the third seed. The Chicago Bulls began their playoff run by having to face the defending NBA champions. Despite the strong play from Giannis’ Bucks, the Bulls had a chance to win. Late in the game, Zach LaVine missed two late game shots that could’ve changed the momentum. On top of that, Bobby Portis went for a rebound and accidentally hit Alex Caruso in the eye.
