A heartbreaking accident in Northeast Philadelphia resulted in the death of a toddler Wednesday afternoon. Sadly, her mother accidentally ran her over while repositioning their family vehicle.

The incident occurred just after 5:30 p.m. on the 200 block of Comly Street in the Crescentville section of the city. A 31-year-old woman was returning from a grocery trip. After that, she was moving her blue Chevy Traverse. She had temporarily double-parked outside her home. Tragically, her 2-year-old daughter followed her outside unbeknownst to the mother. As a result, she was struck as the vehicle began to move forward.

Philadelphia Police Public Affairs Officer, Tanya Little, provided details of the incident. She noted the unforeseen tragedy as the mother attempted to relocate the car to facilitate unloading groceries. Despite immediate medical attention, the child was rushed to a nearby hospital. Sadly, she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The area was cordoned off as investigators and police worked at the scene. Sky Force captured overhead images showing the extent of the emergency response.

This devastating event remains under investigation. Meanwhile, the community and the family grapple with the profound loss of such a young life. Local authorities and safety experts continue to stress the importance of vigilance and preventive measures to avoid similar tragedies in the future.
