Stories embracing heritage, language and cultural differences play a part in the way we view the world. Aside from cultural influence, black history helps shape the black stars of today’s media and creative communities. Everything from music, dance, poetry, film and comedy all have black superstars leading the way in each profession. Chris Rock is absolutely a black superstar paving the way for future comedians and entertainers. Aside from creating his own depictions of black life Chris Rock is preparing to tell the story of another historical legend. The comedy genius will be directing the Martin Luther King Jr. biopic titled King: A Life.

Although this biopic is an impressive milestone in his career, this isn’t his first time sitting in the directors chair. In addition to directing, Chris Rock also wrote the script for the 2014 film Top Five. He also directed the comedy I Think I Love My Wife and Head of State. According to Deadline, the biopic will be produced by Steven Spielberg and released by Universal Pictures. Based off of the book King: A Life by Jonathan Eig, this biopic follows King through his adolescent years and adult life.
