Man jailed for faking DNA test to dodge child support
A man’s deceitful attempt to escape paternity responsibilities ended in a prison sentence. Thus, casting a shadow on the ordeal of child support disputes. William Boswarva, 29, was sentenced to 12 months in jail after a Liverpool Crown Court found him guilty of conspiracy to commit fraud.
The case unfolded when Boswarva, determined to deny his paternity, enlisted another man to impersonate him at a DNA testing center. Armed with Boswarva’s driving license and adhering to mask mandates from the pandemic era, the impostor managed to dupe medical staff during the procedure on August 3, 2021.
This act of fraud came after Boswarva’s vehement refusal to accept fatherhood following a fleeting encounter that led to the pregnancy. Throughout the ordeal, he pressured the child’s mother to terminate the pregnancy, even offering money for an abortion, before severing all contacts.
The deception came to light when the child’s mother pursued child maintenance, prompting the fraudulent DNA test. Despite his subsequent arrest and the mounting evidence, Boswarva denied the allegations, claiming a mix-up, yet refused a retest while in custody.
This incident adds to Boswarva’s history of legal troubles, with ten prior convictions spanning various offenses. His lawyer, Andrew Jebb, remarked on the poor judgment shown by his client, who has since faced significant legal repercussions.
Boswarva’s actions not only breached legal boundaries but also denied a child the right to know his biological father, further complicating the familial bonds integral to a child’s identity.
As the legal proceedings concluded, the judge reprimanded Boswarva for his selfish actions aimed at circumventing the system. Despite his current financial assessment indicating no immediate child support payments, Boswarva remains liable for future support.
