Nelly and Ashanti were one of the highest profile couples of the late 2000s and early 2010s. During Verzuz, Nelly made it clear he wanted her back. However, Ashanti made it clear she had someone in her life. After Irv Gotti’s “Drink Champs” interview, Nelly and Ashanti began talking again. Soon, they began touring together. Six months later, they appear to be back together. Over the weekend, Nelly put his hands on her behind, while doing “Body on Me.”
Nelly rose to the top of the game the same year as Ashanti’s label-mate, Ja Rule. Back then, the only rappers routinely topping the charts were Nelly, Ja Rule, and Eminem. Few other rappers had a grip on the mainstream the way those guys did. Both Nelly and Ja Rule managed to dominate by singing their raps. However, they managed to have two completely different styles. Somehow, they never collaborated during this run. But Nelly still managed to meet Ashanti.
Nelly, despite dating Ashanti, didn’t make much music with her. In 2008, they collaborated on “Body on Me,” which also featured Akon. The song was a moderate hit, but paled in comparison to the records Ashanti made with Ja Rule. Fifteen years later, Nelly and Ashanti were performing the song. It was obvious they were having a good time doing the performance. Especially Nelly enjoyed it, as he wasted no time giving Ashanti a slap, as she was dancing on him.
