R. Kelly removed from suicide watch after filing lawsuit

Last week, R. Kelly’s trial in Brooklyn finally concluded. This was for his case of sex crimes in trafficking. Kelly was convicted on all nine counts, last fall. He ended up being hit with a 30-year sentence. Kelly also still has two more trials to face, in Illinois and Minnesota.

Following Kelly’s sentencing in Brooklyn, he was placed on suicide watch. This was done despite his attorney claiming that he’s not suicidal at all. That resulted in Kelly filing a lawsuit against the prison.

According to TMZ, Kelly has now been removed from suicide watch. Documents state that Metropolitan Detention Center Warden Heriberto H. Tellez removed Kelly from suicide watch, after a “clinical assessment.” Heriberto was also listed in the lawsuit, filed by Kelly.

Kelly initially filed the lawsuit, due to believing that he was being subjected to “cruel and unusual punishment,” and that it violates his 8th Amendment rights. Kelly added that he was put on suicide watch, simply due to the fact that he’s a celebrity. As of now, Kelly is also planning to appeal the ruling of the 30-year sentence.
