YRS Jerzy’s Wednesday Throwback: Alicia Keys – “Un-thinkable (I’m Ready)”

By YRS Jerzy

In the 2010s, Alicia Keys hasn’t had the success she had in the previous decade. But, she closed the 2000s on a high note, and carried this record over. Following “Empire State of Mind,” with Jay-Z, she dropped The Element of Freedom, her fourth album.

The second single from the album was “Un-thinkable (I’m Ready),” a single that wasn’t like her earlier work. Because it came from the heart, though, it also became a major success. Co-written by Drake, the song tackled the topic of love, and social stigmas.

During the summer of 2010, the song began impacting radio, and the music video premiered. The video depicts interracial love, but black woman/white man, going through different eras, and has Alicia Keys playing opposite Chad Michael Murray. With things being as tense as they are, it’s nice to think back to how things were, not that long ago, and this is this week’s Wednesday Throwback.
