YRS Jerzy’s Wednesday Throwback: UPN’s “Platinum” starring Sticky Fingaz

platinum-upnHip hop is much more than the music, there is a culture behind it that covers everything. The growth of hip hop is shown in the success of TV shows, like “Empire” and “Power.” While “Power” is hip hop influenced, starring Omari Hardwick and 50 Cent, “Empire” is all music.

“Empire,” starring Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson is an insider’s look at the music industry. A ratings juggernaut for FOX, the show received immediate comparisons to “Platinum.” Some thirteen years ago, “Platinum” debuted on UPN.

A series ahead of its time, “Platinum” starred Jason George and Onyx emcee, Sticky Fingaz. The show also had guest appearances from Ginuwine, MC Lyte, Brian McKnight, and Terry Crews. Changing from the norm, this week’s Wednesday Throwback is dedicated to the “Platinum” television drama.
