Afroman sued by police for home raid video clips

One musicians creative idea backfired in one of the biggest ways possible. Rapper Afroman is sued by police for using footage of a 2022 home raid in a music video. As multiple officers stormed his Ohio home, Afroman recorded surveillance of the raid. This footage was used in the video titled “Will You Help Me Repair My Door.” Several officers including four deputies, two sergeants and one detective are accusing Afroman of improperly using the footage.

Afroman is a rapper, singer, comedian and a significant artist of hip-hip culture. His 2002 release “Because I Got High,” is a classic hip-hop single. Additionally, he received a Grammy nomination in 2002. Although signed to a six album deal with Universal Records, he eventually continued to release music independently. He also tours throughout the U.S.

The new lawsuit claims Afroman took footage of faces without any permission or consent. Afroman recorded the entire raid, including close up angles of multiple police officers. Plaintiffs state the video caused “emotional distress, embarrassment, ridicule and humiliation.” In addition to emotional damages, plaintiffs are seeking Afroman’s music video profits and more.
