Ashanti took over the game, twenty years ago. After helping Ja Rule and Jennifer Lopez create “I’m Real” and “Ain’t It Funny,” Ashanti took center stage. Fat Joe recruited Ashanti and Ja Rule for “What’s Luv?” In turn, Fat Joe reached number two on Billboard Hot 100. What kept him from number one was Ja Rule and Ashanti’s “Always On Time.”

Ashanti was the First Lady of Hip Hop and R&B over at Murder Inc. In just one year, Ashanti became the biggest name in R&B. Her debut single, “Foolish,” became an anthem during the first half of 2002. Twenty years later, Ashanti’s debut album has stood the test of time. As a result, Ashanti’s self-titled debut is considered a classic. This is one of a few reasons why Ashanti is re-recording her debut album.

Ashanti was recently stopped by TMZ, when she was in New York City. First, Ashanti was asked about her masters and re-recording her album. Second, Ashanti told them she owns the masters to her re-recordings, which was why she’s doing the album. Finally, when Ashanti was asked about the upcoming Murder Inc. documentary, she said she was not going to be a part of it. After that, Ashanti laughed when she was asked about being a part.
