Black NYC transit worker gets punched by White investment banker

Black NYC transit worker punched by White investment banker

There are plenty of problems within society. Everybody is quick to point blame, but few people have comprehensive solutions. A major problem is how open people are with classism. Many people think they are better than others, because they have more money, or a more prestigious job. As a result, they treat people who they feel are “beneath” them lesser. This was the case with Tanya McCray, a transit worker for the New York City MTA. She wound up being attacked by a banker.

Tanya McCray was exiting her work crew room, which is an employees only area. When she saw Jean-Francois Coste trying to enter, she told him the public was not allowed in. As a result, the man who works as a banker for the investment firm, Tocqueville Asset Management, got upset with her. The situation would quickly escalate. Apparently, the man was in a drunken state. So, when he tried to enter, McCray closed and locked the door.

What happened next was something Tanya McCray did not see coming. When she locked the man out, he had the audacity to hit her in the face. After the man hit her, McCray received assistance from several crew workers. In addition, other workers tried to chase Jean-Francois Coste down. They eventually confronted him, after he ran onto a train. While Coste was arrested, he was released without bail. He will stand trial in March. Meanwhile, McCray said she was caught off guard.
