Battle rapping suddenly reached an unexpected rise in popularity over the summer. Everything from Murda Mook and Loaded Lux going at it to Canibus pulling out a notepad against Dyzasta was noted. Many battle rappers were able to gain mainstream attention through this resurgence.

Nine years ago, battle rap enjoyed a spike in popularity. During this time, Cassidy and Lloyd Banks would land major label deals. Cassidy quickly evolved from being a simple battle rapper into a hitmaker. Versatile, Cassidy provided such hits as “Hotel” with R. Kelly and others such as “I’m a Hustla.”
