A new controversial law just passed in the ‘great’ state that is Florida.
Paramedics and first responders will now be allowed to carry a firearm when responding to high risk situations. The new new states that paramedics will no longer need to retreat from dangerous situations. They are now justified in using force to defend themselves.
Governor Ron DeSantis authorized the bill into law on June 7th It goes into effect on the first of July. Calls for shootings, drug raids, and other high-risk situations fall under the arena of justified use of force. Other instances such as dealing with an armed suicidal person and hostage situations are included as well. First responders who choose to carry will have to go through annual firearm safety and tactical training.
Other states including Kansas and Ohio have emergency responder-firearm laws as well. Tennessee, Mississippi, and Virginia have also proposed similar bills.
